Arab Parliament Speaker praises Bahrain’s pioneering human rights experience

Manama, September 27 (BNA) The Speaker of the Arab House of Representatives and the Board of Trustees, Head of the Arab Observatory for Human Rights, Adel bin Abdul Rahman Al-Asumi praised Bahrain’s experience in the field of alternative sentences and the opening of prisons.

He stressed that the Kingdom’s experience in criminal legislation is a pioneering experience at the regional, Arab and international levels, noting that the Law of Alternative Sentences and the Open Prison System add to the Kingdom’s reforms, and reflect the enlightenment of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Vision and keenness to consolidate the values ​​of human rights principles in a way that contributes to achieving social stability.

Al-Asoumi’s statements came in a speech he delivered at the International Conference on Penal Law and Alternative Measures: The Qualitative Experience in Criminal Legislation, which the Kingdom is hosting today.

The Speaker of the Arab House of Representatives stressed that the law embodies the humanitarian approach adopted by His Majesty the King towards the issue of human rights, adding that it reflects the royal determination and will to develop and modernize the legislative and legal system of the Kingdom in accordance with a civilized approach. And a modern, open vision that gives the judicial system and human rights in the Kingdom a role model at the Arab, regional and international levels.

He added that what distinguished Bahrain’s experience in this field lies in its keenness to implement the law on the widest scale, in accordance with the directives of His Highness the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister to implement the enlightened vision of His Majesty the King, by harnessing the government’s ability to expand the application of this law and its framework within well-thought-out programs of work. And elaborately achieve the expected goals.
