Tokyo, Dec. 13 (BNA): Apple said it has invested more than $100 billion in its Japanese supply network over the past five years, as CEO Tim Cook visited the country’s semiconductor manufacturing hub.


In a statement, Apple said it has boosted its supplier spending in Japan by more than 30% since 2019, with a network covering nearly 1,000 companies, from multinationals to family-run businesses, according to Reuters.


It described Sony Group Corp. as one of its largest suppliers in Japan for providing camera sensors for iPhone products, while also naming medium and small businesses including textile firm Inoue Ribbon Industry Co and mold maker Shincron Co as partners.


Apple said 29 Japanese suppliers have committed to transitioning to renewable energy for Apple-related companies by 2030, including Sony, Murata Manufacturing Co, Keiwa Inc, Fujikura and Sumitomo Electric Industries.
