Paris, February 17 (BNA) Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris concludes the exhibition “Cartier and Islamic Arts”, sponsored by the Louvre Museum and the Fondation Cartier. This exhibition highlights the contribution of Islamic arts to modernity in the West.

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Paris, Sheikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, visited the exhibition, where he was received by the Director of the Museum of Decorative Arts, Olivier Jabet. Olivier Jabet praised the Kingdom’s interest in culture and antiquities, praising the existing cooperation between cultural bodies and museums in the two countries.

The ambassador toured the Bahrain section of the exhibition and was briefed on the pieces made of Bahraini pearls.

He also took this opportunity to stress the importance of the relations between Bahrain and France, noting that the Cartier and Islamic Arts exhibition reflects the depth of the relations between them.

He stressed that cultural work is continuing in Paris to highlight the unique history and heritage of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

He referred to the upcoming Dilmun exhibition at the Louvre Museum in Paris, which comes in response to the bilateral agreement between the two parties on the sidelines of the King’s recent visit to France. He also expressed his appreciation for the support of His Majesty the King to strengthen relations.

Evelyn Buscemi, Chief Curator of the Museum of Decorative Arts, stressed the importance of Jacques Cartier’s visits to Bahrain in search of genuine pearls caught in the waters of the Gulf, noting a photograph he took of himself, which shows his mission to establish direct links with pearl merchants.

The exhibition includes a section under the slogan “Jacques Cartier in India and Bahrain”, where the jewelry displayed includes Bahraini pearls that Jacques Cartier was looking for in the Kingdom.

In addition to jewelry, the department also reviews archival documents and historical photographs of pearling and trade in Bahrain that were documented in the archives of Jacques Cartier during his visit to Bahrain during 1911 and 1912.
