Berlin, December 17 (BNA) Today, Thursday, Emirates Airlines received the last remaining Airbus A380 aircraft in Hamburg.
In total, Airbus has produced 251 aircraft of this type since the A380 program began 21 years ago and handed them over to 14 airlines.
Emirates is by far the most important customer of the A380, having purchased 123 aircraft, German news agency (dpa) reported.
Unlike the commercial launch of the carrier, the delivery took place without many sightings. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, guests have been excluded from delivery at the factory site in the Finkenwerder district of the northern German city.
Emirates CEO Tim Clark spoke of a “very special aircraft” that opened the possibility to efficiently meet demand at airports with limited openings, according to the statement.
Having retired Emirates from five aircraft, the airline’s fleet currently includes 118 A380s.
Airbus President Guillaume Faury thanked Emirates Airlines for its unwavering confidence in the aircraft.
An immediate predecessor, Tom Enders, announced the end of production of the world’s largest passenger plane in 2019 due to a lack of orders.
