Agreement to host IPU General Assembly in Bahrain signed

Manama, September 6 (BNA) The Bahraini bicameral parliament and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) signed an agreement on organizing and holding the 146th session of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and related meetings in March 2023 in Bahrain.

More than 2,000 parliament representatives and 178 parliament delegations from around the world and international organizations will participate in the five-day meeting in Bahrain.

Councils are organized jointly by the legislative and executive branches.

The signing ceremony in Manama was attended by Parliament Speaker Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal, Shura Council Speaker Ali bin Saleh Al-Saleh and Inter-Parliamentary Union Secretary-General Martin Chungong.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives said that the Kingdom’s hosting of the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union is a clear evidence of the international confidence that the Kingdom enjoys.

She stressed that this also reflects Bahrain’s good standing in the international community, which comes as a result of the approach and support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Zainal stressed the remarkable support provided by the government headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and its continuous cooperation with the legislative authority.

Al-Saleh said that the confidence of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Bahrain and the convening of its General Assembly No. 146 in Manama is an affirmation of the remarkable progress achieved by Bahrain and its growth in parliamentary and legislative work.

The Speaker of the Shura Council added that the presence and participation of heads and representatives of all legislative councils in the world, as well as parliamentary unions and international organizations, will constitute an opportunity to learn more about Bahrain and its role in spreading the values ​​of tolerance and coexistence. And peace.

Among the topics that will be highlighted in the March meetings are peaceful coexistence, rejecting intolerance, and achieving global security and stability.
