Africa’s fastest man Omanyala a doubt for worlds due to visa issue

Eugene, July 14 (BNA): Kenyan athlete’s spokesman Ferdinand Omanyala said today, Wednesday, that it is doubtful that he will participate in this week’s world championships in the United States because the Kenyan sprinter is facing visa issues.

Omanyala set the men’s 100m record after clocking 9.77sec at the Cape Kino Classic in Nairobi in September 2021, Reuters reports.

The Kenyan sprinter has been shortlisted for the 100-meter event at the World Championships, which begins in Eugene, Oregon on Friday.

“Ferdinand is still awaiting his visa or alternative permit to leave Nairobi,” a spokesperson for Omanyala told Reuters.

“It’s frustrating, but he’s still hoping to make the trip,” he added.

The 26-year-old won the African 100m title last month and was the first Kenyan to qualify for the Olympic 100m semi-finals in Tokyo last year.
