Academy Museum to honor Julia Roberts at 2nd annual gala

Los Angeles, July 17 (BNA): The organization said on Friday that the Academic Museum of the Moving Image Julia is honoring Julia Roberts at its second annual gala in October. The Academy Award winner will receive the Icon Award in recognition of the significant global cultural impact of her career.

“Over the course of her extensive and acclaimed career, Julia has embodied iconic characters and unforgettable roles,” Jacqueline Stewart, the new director and president of the Academy Museum, said in a statement. “We are delighted to honor her continued excellence in the industry and her contribution to the arts.”

Roberts won an Academy Award in 2000 for her leading role in Erin Brockovich.

Director Steve McQueen, actress Tilda Swinton and “Parasite” producer Mickey Lee will also receive awards at the ceremony on October 15 in Los Angeles, according to the Associated Press.

The ceremony serves as a fundraiser for the Museum’s educational programs and initiatives. Last year’s inaugural event raised more than $11 million. The museum also unveiled the star-studded party hosting committee that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Duvall, Regina Hall, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ariana Debus and many more.
