6 Bayern players score in Bundesliga rout of Mainz

Berlin, October 29 (BNA): Bayern Munich returned to the top of the German Bundesliga, for at least one day, after beating Mainz 6-2 with six different scorers. Continuing a streak of big gains.

Sadio Mane scored one goal and set up two more as Bayern secured their sixth consecutive win in all competitions, scoring an impressive 25 goals in those matches, according to the Associated Press.

Bayern needed just five minutes to take the lead as Mane set up Serge Gnabry to score the opening goal. Jamal Musiala added the second goal and Mane got a penalty just before the break.

Mainz had chances to get back into the match, as Jonathan Burckardt hit the crossbar and saw his penalty kick over the crossbar.

Sylvain Widmer headed in from the resulting corner to make it 3-1, but Mainz’s comeback stopped there.

A precise cross from Mane allowed Leon Goretzka to head for Bayern in the 58th and 17th minute, and French striker Matthijs Thiel added Bayern’s fifth off the bench with a direction-altering shot in the 80th minute.

Reserve goalkeeper Sven Ulrich – who was on assignment while Manuel Neuer was recovering from a shoulder injury – gave the ball under a little pressure soon after, allowing Marcus Ingwarzen to score a consolation goal for Mainz.

The lead was restored with four goals when Eric Maxime Choupo-Moting, the veteran striker who has given Bayern a much-needed structure in attack lately, scored in the 86th minute to score his sixth goal in five matches, having earlier assisted against Musyala.
