400 migrants saved from boat run aground off Sicilian coast

Rome, November 11 (BNA) The Italian authorities said on Wednesday that they had brought nearly 400 migrants by boat to safety off the coast of Sicily during the night.

German news agency dpa reported that a fishing boat carrying migrants ran aground off Pozzallo at the southern tip of the island.

Travelers were taken to house the locomotives and from there to shore.

Meanwhile, off the coast of Sicily on Wednesday afternoon, relief organization SOS Mediterranee said it had a ship waiting on board with more than 300 rescued migrants to allocate a safe port.

The Ocean Viking crew had been trying to bring people ashore for several days. Some were removed from the ship for medical reasons.

Migrants often set off from the North African coast and attempt to reach the European Union by sea as refugees or simply in search of a better life.
