4-time F1 champion Vettel to retire at end of season

Budapest, July 28 (BNA) Four-time Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel has announced his retirement at the end of the current season to spend more time with his family.

Vettel won four Formula One titles 2010-13 with Red Bull Racing. His last race win for Ferrari came in 2019, according to the Associated Press.

This season with Aston Martin, he’s been largely unsuccessful with the best finish in sixth.

Vettel has won 53 races, the third-highest total in Formula 1 behind Lewis Hamilton (103) and Michael Schumacher (91). He won the F1 record in 13 races in 2013.
Vettel became the youngest world champion at the age of 23 in 2010 and later became the third driver to win four consecutive championships after Formula 1 greats Juan Miguel Fangio and Michael Schumacher. They have since been joined by Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton.

Vettel’s title bids with Ferrari were unsuccessful after holding off promising starts due to errors from drivers under pressure.

He led the standings halfway in 2017 and was in competition the following year, but lost both championships to Hamilton.
He was shocked when Ferrari did not renew his contract after struggling to compete alongside newcomer Charles Leclerc in 2019, and again in 2020.
