252,256 Bahrainis cast ballots in 2022 elections; women turnout 48%, young voters 45.37%

Manama, November 14 (BNA): 252,256 Bahrainis cast their votes in the first round of the parliamentary and municipal elections on November 12, Chairman of the Legislation and Legal Opinion Authority and Executive Director of Parliamentary and Municipal Elections 2022, Nawaf Abdullah Hamza said.


This figure means that the participation rate reached 73.18%, which is the highest since the start of the quadripartite elections in 2002, at the beginning of the democratic process.


The high rate of participation in the elections reflects the national awareness of the importance of the elections in consolidating the achievements made during the reign of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, added His Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.


Hamzah said that the participation rate among women reached 48%, in an indication of the high level of political participation of Bahraini women and their prominent role in consolidating democratic practices.


He added that the turnout of young people reached 45.37%, a figure that reflects the vitality of political and democratic life in Bahrain, and the interest of young people in actively participating in the national process for electing legislators and members of municipal councils.


The number of Bahrainis eligible to vote in the 2022 elections is 344,713.
