Rome, Feb. 10 (BNA): Nikola Milinkovic scored the last kick of the match to lead the 10-man Fiorentina to the Italian Cup semi-finals with a 3-2 victory over last year’s runner-up Atalanta on Thursday.
Milinkovic, who played late as a substitute, scored in the third minute of injury time when the hosts failed to clear a free kick. Milinkovic stopped the ball in his thigh and let it fly with a shot into the far post.
The visitors waited anxiously as the goal was checked by the VAR for potential fouls before referee Michael Fabri gave his all and ended what was a difficult match.
Krzysztof Petek got Fiorentina a superb start from the penalty spot in the ninth minute, before Davide Zappacosta equalized just under the bar in the 30th minute.
Jeremy Boga made his way with some luck past two defenders and remained calm to beat Fiorentina goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano 2-1 in the 53rd minute.research and developmentAP reports.
Fabri awarded the visitors another penalty kick in the 70th minute. Juan Musso saved a penalty for Petek, but the ball graciously landed for the Polish striker to score on the rebounds.
Fiorentina defender Martinez Quarta was sent off with a second yellow card in the 79th minute, shortly before Vincenzo Italiano reacted by bringing in Milinkovic – a defender – to help equalize and force overtime. But the Serbian player scored the winning goal instead.
