UAE, Saudi Arabia sign MoU for mutual recognition of seafarers competency certification

London, Dec. 6 (BNA): The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates and the General Transport Authority in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia signed a memorandum of understanding for the mutual recognition of marine certificates issued in both countries.

This is in accordance with the International Convention on Standards for Training, Certification and Monitoring for Seafarers (STCW) of 1978 and its amendments, reports WAM news agency.

According to the memorandum of understanding, the two sides recognize education, training and certificates of competency in the maritime sector, as well as certificates of medical fitness for sailors issued by the maritime bodies and authorities in the other country, as well as sailors on board ships that fly the flag. The other party, in accordance with international regulations and agreements.

The signing of the memorandum of understanding at the headquarters of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London comes in line with the common vision between the two countries to ensure the highest standards of maritime safety, and within the results of the Saudi-Emirati Coordination Council.
