Tourism Minister chairs BTEA board meeting

Manama, Feb. 12 (BNA): Tourism Minister Fatima bint Jaafar Al-Serafi stressed the success in exceeding the goals set in the 2022 strategy.

And she stressed the importer to harness all efforts to achieve more tourism successes during the next stage in order to reach the goals of the economic recovery plan.

The minister made this statement while chairing today the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority.

Tourism indicators for 2022 have exceeded the target performance results set in the Tourism Strategy 2022-2026.

Tourism revenues exceeded 1.5 billion Bahraini dinars in 2022, an increase of 50% compared to the target figure for the same year, which was 1 billion Bahraini dinars.

According to 2022 statistics, the number of visitors coming for tourism purposes reached 9.9 million, an increase of 19% over the target number of 8.3 million visitors.

The average daily spending of tourists exceeded the target by 10%, recording 76 Bahraini dinars per visitor, compared to a target average spending of 69 Bahraini dinars.

The average stay of tourists exceeded the target number of 3.3 days, recording 3.5 days, which represents an increase of more than 6%.

The chief executive of the authority, Dr. Nasser Qaidi, said that inbound tourism in Bahrain had recovered during 2022 by 90% compared to pre-pandemic levels, exceeding the international recovery rate estimated by the World Tourism Organization at 65%. .

Qaidi highlighted the implemented tourism projects, including the approved schedule for cruise ships for the 2023 season and the results of the Bahrain holiday season, which began last December.

He highlighted the preparations of the Bahrain Tourism and Travel Authority regarding the Gulf Air Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix, which will be held at the Bahrain International Circuit from March 3 to 5 next.

He emphasized efforts to restore the momentum of wedding tourism in Bahrain, pointing to cooperation with partners to host 14 weddings in the first quarter of this year.
