SAN FRANCISCO, May 20 (BNA): Tesla (TSLA.O) is offering discounts of more than $1,300 on some Model 3 cars in its inventory in the United States after deeper discounts in Europe, according to a Reuters review of its website, by the time the company raised the price. The electric automaker has prices in the US on most newly ordered vehicles this month.
Industry analysts report that Tesla, which aggressively slashed auto prices this year in several regions, is resorting to the traditional automaker’s tactic of offering incentives to liquidate inventory at a time when it faces increasing economic headwinds and competition.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk told shareholders on Tuesday that the company will try to go public for the first time, in a move analysts see as increasing demand. Musk also warned that Tesla is not immune to the global economy, which he said will be difficult over the next 12 months.
