Speaker opens APA meeting

Manama, May 17 (BNA): Cooperation with Asia is a priority for Bahrain, in line with the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa regarding strengthening sustainable partnerships to face common challenges and issues in the region. Muslim said.

Al-Musallam said that the legislative authority in Bahrain attaches importance to parliamentary diplomacy as a tool to enhance bilateral and multilateral Asian cooperation. He added that it can maximize the role of the APA and enable it to achieve its goals.

The speaker was addressing the participants at the opening meeting of the Standing Committee on Economic and Sustainable Development of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA).

The opening ceremony was attended by the Shura Council Chairman, Ali bin Saleh Al-Saleh.

The speaker stressed the importance of directing parliamentary efforts towards implementing the sustainable development goals as part of the role of parliaments in addressing global issues such as climate change.

Al-Musallam touched on the challenges of climate change, food security, health, infrastructure and biodiversity in Asia.

The Speaker said that Asia is the largest continent in terms of population and economic growth, but it needs more integration to promote trade, investment, communication and build on the common cultural heritage.

He stressed the importance of the Asian Parliamentary Dialogue to advance cooperation and formulate joint strategies that are reflected in national legislation.
