Son hits brace in Klinsmann’s Korea debut as Colombia claim draw

Seoul, March 24 (BNA): South Korea shook off a two-goal halftime lead to share a 2-2 draw with Colombia in Ulsan on Friday in coach Jurgen Klinsmann’s first match under the Taeguk Warriors.

Reuters reported that Son Heung-min scored twice to give the Koreans a comfortable lead in the second half, but two goals in four minutes after James Rodriguez and Jorge Carrascal resumed gave the Colombians an equaliser.

Son put his difficulties in scoring for Tottenham Hotspur behind him to give the Koreans the lead in the tenth minute, taking advantage of his team’s possession of the ball deep in the Colombian half to score from distance.

His second goal was even more impressive as last year’s Premier League top scorer was determined to curl a free kick past Camilo Vargas from 25 yards with his right foot.

Rodriguez pulled one back for the Colombians within a minute of the restart when Diego Valois fired in from the right and Carrascal equalized three minutes later.

Celtic striker Oh Hyun-kyu almost won the game for the Koreans with two minutes remaining, only to have his own goal scored by the Colombia defense without Vargas missing.

The Koreans will host Uruguay in Seoul on Tuesday for Klinsmann’s second game, while the Colombians will travel to Osaka to face Japan.
