Ship comes under attack off Yemen, British military says

Dubai, April 28 (BNA): A British military organization said that a ship was attacked on Friday off the Yemeni coast in mysterious circumstances.

The British Army’s Maritime Trade Operations, which provides support to ships through the Middle East, said the attack took place off Nishtun in Yemen.

She added that shots were fired at the unidentified ship in the Gulf of Aden, while three boats were chasing it. No additional information was immediately available.

The Gulf of Aden is an important global trade route and has witnessed attacks attributed to Houthi rebels in Yemen who are backed by Iran, according to the Associated Press.

Most of the Somali pirate attacks that have plagued the region in recent years have stopped.

Attacks have happened there before. In December 2020, a mysterious attack targeted a cargo ship off Nehton.

The attack comes after Iran seized a Khmeriz oil tanker carrying crude for Chevron Corp. en route to Houston.
