SEA President participates in IRENA Assembly

Manama, Jan. 16 (BNA) The President of the Sustainable Energy Authority, Dr. Abdul-Hussein bin Ali Mirza, participated in the opening of the twelfth session of the International Renewable Energy Association (IRENA), which was held virtually.

Dr. Mirza referred to Bahrain’s announcement at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow (COP26) to adopt the national goal to reach zero carbon neutrality by 2060, and the Kingdom’s temporary and short-term goals to comply with this declaration.

He said that Bahrain was able at the end of 2021 to achieve the national renewable energy targets set for 2025, which is to increase the share of renewable energy resources in the total energy mix by 5%, four years ahead of schedule. Date.

Dr. Mirza highlighted Bahrain’s strategies related to the sustainability of energy resources, and highlighted the initiatives to encourage investment in renewable energy projects and increase the share of renewable energy resources in the total energy mix.

The head of the SEA highlighted the importance of renewable energy to support efforts to confront disasters and maintain development, which is reflected in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. Due to the need to intensify efforts to increase the share of renewable and clean energy sources to support important basic sectors, without affecting the environment.

In his speech, he thanked the efforts of the National Action Team to combat the Corona Virus (Covid-19), headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
