Salzburg hit by 15 COVID cases among players and staff

Vienna Feb 23 (BUS): Austrian champions Salzburg canceled training on Wednesday after 15 cases of coronavirus were reported among players and staff, the Associated Press reported.

Salzburg did not specify how many cases players had been in but said that some players had “fairly mild symptoms” and that all participants are in isolation.

The outbreak comes a week after Salzburg drew 1-1 with Bayern Munich in the first leg of the last 16 in the Champions League. Second stop on March 8 in Munich.

“We are still ready to train and play,” sporting director Christoph Freund said in a statement.

“However, we now have to closely follow further developments among the non-injured players, along with our medical department, and respond if necessary.”

Salzburg leads the Austrian league by 17 points and is next in the match against LASK Linz on Sunday.
