Manama, Feb. 16 (BNA): The Abdullah Kanoo Pediatric Oncology Unit was inaugurated after its renovation at the Salmaniya Medical Complex, under the auspices of the President of the Supreme Council of Health, Lieutenant General Dr. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al. successor.
Government hospitals have reopened the refurbished facility, in collaboration with the Smile Initiative, a program of the Bahrain Future Youth Society that provides psychosocial support to children with cancer and their parents in Bahrain.
The opening ceremony was also attended by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Governmental Hospitals, Sheikh Hisham bin Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, CEO Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Ansari, President of the Bahrain Society for the Future Program for Youth, Sabah Abdulrahman Al-Zayani and other officials.
The unit was completely renovated with the support of the “Smile” initiative, which allocated the proceeds of its annual awareness campaign “Our Children Are Like Gold”, which it held in its eighth and ninth editions during the year 2021-2022, for its benefit. from this project.
This included remodeling the rooms and reception desk, building an extra room for consultations, providing children’s recreational spaces and redesigning and fitting out the day therapy room.
Lt. Gen. Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa praised the prominent role played by civil institutions in promoting humanitarian charitable work and supporting the government’s efforts to provide support and assistance to patients.
He stressed the importance of cooperation with civil society institutions to carry out their humanitarian role through their various programs to care for patients in general and cancer patients in particular, and this support aims to enhance the health of children.
