Queen Elizabeth attends star-studded horse show finale

London, May 16 (BNA) Britain’s Queen Elizabeth attended the closing of a four-day horse show on Sunday that celebrated the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne and drew star-studded actors including Hollywood actor Tom Cruise and British actress Helen Mirren.

Wearing a gray shawl, the 96-year-old was led to the outdoor scene on the grounds of Windsor Castle where two RCMP officers who helped her from a Range Rover greeted her to the cheers of the crowd.

Singers, including Gregory Porter, were scheduled to perform on the show.

“She’s just a woman that I admire a lot,” Cruz said before the event. “I think she is a person of immense dignity and I admire her sincerity. What she has accomplished has been historic.”

The Queen has attended all of the Royal Windsor horse shows since its inception 79 years ago, reflecting her keen interest in horse racing and breeding. In a photo for her 96th birthday in April, she is posed with two young ponies.

Elizabeth was seen in public on only a few occasions after spending a night in the hospital last October with an unspecified illness, after which doctors asked her to rest.

Since then, she has carried out her duties either remotely or in person at her Windsor Castle home.

On Sunday, she used a small elevator to help her get from her car to her seat, according to an ITV reporter who broadcast the event.

The horse show has kicked off the celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee which will culminate with four days of patriotic events starting June 2. The Queen also attended the parade on Friday.
