Perez rules the streets but title tilt remains a long shot

London, May 1 (BNA): Sergio Perez has been hailed as the ‘King of the Streets’ after his double success in Baku, but the Mexican will have to up his game all around to be a real threat to Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen.

Red Bull is also ahead of the rest in a special battle in Formula 1, with their drivers winning two major prizes each after four rounds of 23 and there was no sign of anyone else coming close.

Double world champion Verstappen left Azerbaijan on Sunday, six points off the pace and nothing in his behavior suggested he was wary of the 33-year-old’s challenge.

The Mexican can claim to have won more races than Verstappen in 2023, when Saturday’s race in Baku is included, but the result was 15-2 for his Dutch teammate last season, according to Reuters.

Five of Perez’s six career victories have been on street circuits, Paco being the first time he has won twice at the same track, and he has yet to win more than two races in any season.

If Baku is out of the ordinary, at least the two Red Bulls are matched enough – for now – to provide some suspense amidst the dominance.
