Seoul, April 29 (BNA): North Korean Kim Yo Jong, the powerful sister of leader Kim Jong Un, said that the agreement between the United States and South Korea this week on the need to strengthen security in South Korea will worsen the situation, according to the state. KCNA on Saturday.
Kim said North Korea is convinced that the “nuclear war deterrent” should be improved as a result. The statement gave no further details, Reuters reported.
Kim’s statement is North Korea’s first comment on the meeting, and suggests that the cycle of military force showdown and weapons development will continue.
US President Joe Biden and South Korean President Yoon Sok-yol met this week, as the US pledged to give South Korea more insight into its nuclear planning over any conflict with North Korea amid concern about Pyongyang’s growing arsenal of missiles and bombs.
A US Navy nuclear-armed ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) will also visit South Korea for the first time since the 1980s, to help demonstrate Washington’s determination to protect the country from a North Korean attack.
