NIHR participates in international conference on climate change and human rights

Doha, Feb. 27 (BNA): The President of the National Institution for Human Rights, Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, participated in the international conference on “Climate Change and Human Rights”.

The two-day conference was organized by the National Human Rights Committee of Qatar, in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the United Nations Development Programme, the League of Arab States, and the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions. (Al-Janhari).

The conference discussed many issues facing humanity related to climate change and human rights, the implications and obligations, and the role played by the United Nations and its agencies in advancing climate action based on human rights.

The conference called on countries and stakeholders to work together to ensure that human rights law, as well as its principles and standards, are the cornerstone of governments’ efforts to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change to minimize loss and damage.

He also recommended studying ways to adapt to climate change and mitigate its effects. in an ambitious, inclusive and rights-based manner, in line with the Sixteenth Goal of Sustainable Development.
