Messi in Beijing for friendly before move to Miami

Shanghai, June 10 (BNA): Argentine star Lionel Messi arrived in Beijing today, Saturday, for a friendly match, before leaving a famous European career to join Inter Miami, who plays in Major League Soccer, as a free agent.

His arrival was announced in a post on International Football Invitation’s official Weibo social media site, with a video of the players disembarking from the plane, ahead of Thursday’s Argentina-Australia match at the Chinese capital’s recently rebuilt Workers’ Stadium, Reuters reports.

Messi, who lifted the World Cup in Qatar in December and is widely considered one of the greatest players ever, confirmed this week that he will leave French champions Paris Saint-Germain for the MLS.

This is the Argentina captain’s seventh visit to China and the first since 2017.

He has received a standing ovation on each of his previous visits to China, which has a huge football fan base despite the struggles of the men’s national team, who have competed in the World Cup only once.

The last meeting between Australia and Argentina was in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar in the round of 16, where Messi was among the scorers, as his team won 2-1.
