UoB, CERN sign ICA in research scientific field cooperation

Geneva, June 22 (BNA): The University of Bahrain (UoB) and the European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN) signed an International Cooperation Agreement (ICA).

The agreement was signed by Dr. Fouad Mohammed Al-Ansari, President of the University of Bahrain, and Charlotte Lindbergh Wrakul, Director of International Relations.

Founded in 1954, CERN is an intergovernmental organization that operates the largest particle physics laboratory in the world. It provides a unique set of particle accelerator facilities to researchers, to advance the frontiers of human knowledge.

Dr. Ansari said that the ICA between UoB and CERN is important for strengthening international cooperation and partnership in the field of science and technological advancement.

He added that cooperation with the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) will contribute to strengthening Bahraini cadres and industries, in addition to providing Bahrainis with the opportunity to engage in scientific research projects in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) studies.

Dr. Al-Ansari emphasized that ICA with CERN will enable academics and researchers from Bahrain to apply to join the organization’s educational institutions such as the study of particle accelerators, the European School of High Energy Physics, the Summer Student Program, and the CERN School. Computing (CSC).

Bahrain signed an International Cooperation Agreement with the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) to create a framework that facilitates long-term opportunities for local scientists, researchers, engineers, educators, students and technologists to participate in CERN programmes.

The International Public Relations Conference was facilitated by Ambassador Dr. Yousef Abdul Karim Bucheery, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations and the World Trade Organization in Geneva, Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Chairman and Founder of Shaikh Ebrahim bin. Mohammed Al Khalifa Center for Culture and Research d. Haifa Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Dean of the College of Engineering, Waleed Salah Al-Miraj, Director of Policy at the Office of the Prime Minister, and Maryam Al-Shorouki, Director of Research Projects at the Sheikh Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Center for Culture and Research

Dr. Al-Ansari was briefed on the nature and role of the European Organization for Nuclear Research during the visit.

UoB was a participating member of the Muon Detectors Trial at CERN in 2019.
