Greece’s new parliament sworn in following conservative party’s election victory

Athens, July 3 (BNA) New Greek lawmakers were sworn in on Monday, just over a week after a general election that saw a number of smaller fringe parties on the right and left enter parliament for the first time.

300 members of parliament were appointed during a religious ceremony after the June 25 election that returned conservative Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to power for a second four-year term in a landslide victory, crushing left-wing opposition party Syriza and pushing out opposition leader Alexis Tsipras. to announce his resignation.

The Associated Press (AP) reports that Mitsotakis New Democratic Party now has a comfortable parliamentary majority, with 158 seats compared to 48 for Syriza.
