Muslim Council of Elders condemns burning of Holy Quran in Denmark

Cairo, July 24 (BNA): The Council of Muslim Elders strongly condemned the burning of the Holy Quran by extremists in Denmark.

The Council of Muslim Elders, chaired by the honorable Imam of Al-Azhar, His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, expressed its strong condemnation of what an extremist group in Denmark committed to burning the Holy Qur’an in an outrageous and despicable manner.

The Council reiterated its categorical rejection of such heinous acts aimed at provoking Muslims all over the world, emphasizing that the repetition of such racist acts reflects despicable extremism, blind fanaticism and abhorrent hatred that contradict basic human principles and standards. Moreover, these abhorrent actions only serve to undermine global efforts to promote peace and coexistence.

The Council called for the implementation of final procedures and legislation to stop these despicable practices to criminalize attacks on religions and religious sanctities. The Council stressed that these repeated heinous acts cannot be justified under the pretext of freedom of speech or expression.
