Cairo, July 20 (BNA): The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Adel bin Abdul Rahman Al-Assoumi, strongly condemned the Swedish authorities’ issuance of a permit for an extremist to burn the Holy Qur’an for the second time.
He urged the international community to take immediate action to stop such attacks on the Holy Quran and protect Islamic sanctities, and warned of the danger of inflaming the feelings of Muslims around the world, because that would plunge everyone into the cauldron of violence.
Al-Asoumi called on the Arab countries to sever diplomatic relations with Sweden, boycott its products, and stop traveling to this Scandinavian country.
He also urged Arab and Islamic countries to launch a global economic boycott campaign to pressure the Swedish authorities to stop these violations.
In a statement he issued today, he praised the Iraqi government, which severed diplomatic and economic relations with Sweden, stressing the steadfastness of the Arab Parliament’s position.
The Associated Press president stressed the importance of spreading the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence between religions, respecting symbols and sanctities, and rejecting hatred and extremism.
