Foreign Minister participates in Arab League-PSIDS meeting

Riyadh, June 12 (BNA): Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, participated in the second ministerial meeting of the members of the League of Arab States and Small Island Developing States in the Pacific today in Riyadh.

The meeting was chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Gustav Aitaro, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Palau whose country is currently chaired by PSIDS; It was attended by Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States.

In his statements during the meeting, Dr. Al-Zayani praised the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia aimed at strengthening cooperation and building partnerships between Arab countries and the world.

The minister said that expanding cooperation between Arab countries and PSIDS countries in the fields of trade, industry and development and exploring joint opportunities in the sectors of tourism, culture and communications. It gains its importance from the strong friendship between the two sides and the political, security and economic challenges the world is currently witnessing.

Dr. Al-Zayani said that the Kingdom of Bahrain stressed the importance of strengthening multilateral cooperation between the two sides, whether by coordinating positions on urgent developments or exchanging support for nominations to the United Nations and other organizations.

The minister said that the Kingdom of Bahrain supports the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the League of Arab States and PSIDS, to create a legal framework for cooperation between the two sides in multiple disciplines, adding that it is important to increase cooperation to face global challenges, on top of which are food security, climate change, terrorism and organized crime.

The delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs included Fawzia Abdullah Zainal, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States. – Sheikh Ali bin Abdul Rahman bin Ali Al Khalifa, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to Saudi Arabia. Ambassador Talal Abdul Salam Al-Ansari, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Her Excellency Ambassador Fatima Abdullah Al Dhaen, Head of the Asia and Pacific Affairs Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
