Quran burning offends Muslims worldwide, Arab League Secretary General

Cairo, July 20 (BNA): The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, condemned in the strongest terms the burning of the Noble Qur’an by an extremist in Stockholm, Sweden.

“This despicable act represents a massive and unacceptable provocation of the feelings of Muslims everywhere around the world,” he said.

Jamal Rushdi said in a statement to the Middle East News Agency, “Abul-Gheit warned weeks ago of the consequences of allowing the Swedish authorities to carry out such provocative actions that only contribute to spreading the rhetoric of extremism.”

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States also warned that tolerance of hate speech and extremism does not represent freedom of opinion and expression, indicating that any confusion between these two concepts will only fuel the fires of extremism and violence on the part of those waiting for such an opportunity to “spread their poison and stir up destructive ideas.”
