New owner incoming, Chelsea into FA Cup final with Liverpool

London, April 18 (BUS): The sale of Chelsea has been completed within four weeks and the new property will have the FA Cup final against Liverpool to attend the match.

It has not yet been decided who will represent the club in the royal box at Wembley Stadium on May 14, the Associated Press reports.

As the three remaining bidders wait to find out if they have been selected to buy sanctioned Russian owner Roman Abramovich, the West London side beat Crystal Palace 2-0 in the semi-finals of the world’s oldest soccer competition on Sunday.

Goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount ensured the eight-time FA Cup winners returned to Wembley on May 14 to face Liverpool, who beat them at the National Stadium on penalties in the League Cup final in February.

“Now is the time to get our payback,” Mount said.

Before that, it would have taken 3 billion pounds ($4 billion) to take control of Chelsea once the forced sale was completed.

Contenders for ownership are assessed in part based on the amount they will have to invest across the club, including player recruitment. The victory over Patrick Vieira’s palace resulted from goals from Chelsea academy graduates who capitalized on Abramovich’s lavish spending.

Such is the challenge of breaking into the first team, as both have had to gain experience playing on loan elsewhere, including Loftus-Cheek at rival London Palace.

The 26-year-old midfielder’s career was also interrupted by a ruptured Achilles tendon in May 2019 and has not scored for the club since that month until he broke the deadlock against Palace in the 65th minute.

“It’s been a tough road, injuries and borrowing to get my level back up again,” Loftus-Cheek said. “I’ve always believed in myself and always wanted to play for Chelsea.

“The reason I am still here is my mentality. I still believe in myself.”

It was the expulsion from Terrick Mitchell’s property that created the opening Chelsea that ended with Kai Havertz’s effort veering away from Mark Joy to the edge of the penalty area as Loftus-Cheek’s shot into the top corner.

Thomas Tuchel now encourages Loftus-Cheek to make such crucial contributions often.

“It’s the opposite of overconfidence,” the Chelsea coach said. “We need to install that confidence in his body and his game. This is the next step for him to feel the impact he can have.”

Mount’s goal came in the 76th minute after he played a double with Timo Werner before he had time and space to shoot past Jack Butland.

The week in which Real Madrid were eliminated in the Champions League quarter-finals ended at an all-time high to reach Chelsea’s sixth final in a year under Tuchel – with the Club World Cup, European Cup and European Super Cup lifted. Chelsea lost the 2021 FA Cup final to Leicester.

“It was hard for us to maintain that focus and discipline because you know our schedule — a very demanding schedule,” Tuchel said. “This is where the credit goes to my team.”

Chelsea had a double success in the semi-finals on Sunday. The Women’s FA Cup holders beat Arsenal 2-0 on Sunday to prepare for their final clash with Manchester City at Wembley on May 15 – a day after the men’s match at the same venue.

By that time, Chelsea could retain the Women’s Premier League title. Realistically, the men’s team is only third in the Premier League, with Manchester City and Liverpool vying for the cup.

Premier League

There were two Premier League matches on Sunday which affected the battle to avoid relegation.

It seems that Newcastle will survive after Bruno Guimarães completed the comeback by scoring his second goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time to secure a 2-1 victory over Leicester. The Northeast side moved 12 points clear of the relegation zone with six games remaining, with a resurgence with the help of the new Saudi monarchy signed by Guimarães in the January transfer window.

Burnley’s first match since Sean Dycke was sent off on Friday ended in a 1-1 draw with West Ham. Burnley are three points behind Everton, who are 17th and have just come out of the relegation zone with a game in hand.
