Manama, Feb. 14 (BNA): Nasser Nass, Adam Awan and Omar Al Dirian achieved consecutive victories over the weekend in the sixth and seventh rounds of the Bahrain Rotax Max Championship 2022/2023, which was held in Bahrain. Sakhir International Karting Circuit (BIKC), a world-class motorsports facility at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC).
Nasser won both finals in the Mini Max category, while Adam was victorious in the Micro Max Finals. Alderayan followed suit by taking both final sprints in the DD2 MAX class.
The triumphant weekend also featured Gracie Grantham and Mohammed Al Hassan, who shared the spoils in the Junior Max class. As well as Mohammed Wali and Fahad Al-Khaled, both of whom were victorious among the Senior Max competitors.
The race took place on the penultimate weekend of BRMC’s current campaign along the 1.414km CIK-FIA track. BRMC is organized by BIKC and BIC, in association with Bahrain Motor Federation (BMF) and Bahrain Karting Committee (BKC).
In the sixth round, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saqr Al Khalifa topped the Mini Max qualifying timetable to take first place in the semi-finals, but Nasser then managed to take first place in that race, 2.007 seconds ahead of Sheikh Ahmed. In the final, Nasser and Sheikh Ahmed again engaged in a tight battle, with Nasser defending his pole position throughout the nine laps to win in eight minutes, 53.065 seconds. Sheikh Ahmed settled for second, 0.578 seconds behind, while Vic van Campenhout came third, 5.312 seconds behind.
In the Micro MAX class, Ali Almoayyed set the qualifying pace but Adam raced to victory in his semi-final. Adam then rode his momentum into the final, winning with nine laps to go in 9:25.074, 2.917 seconds ahead of Ali. Tarek Soufi was third, after 3.495 seconds.
Gracie was at the top of his form in the Junior MAX category, placing first in both the heats and semi-finals. Then she finished a perfect run by inheriting the win in the final 15 laps with a time of 13:36.165. Gracie had originally crossed the finish line second with Al Hassan first, but Al Hassan was given a 10-second time penalty, dropping him to fifth in the standings. Luca Hutton finished second, 5.037 seconds behind Gracie, and Jaber Al-Sabah was third, 13.521 seconds off the winner’s mark.
Wally also enjoyed a great showing in the Senior MAX class, topping the Qualifiers and then winning the Semi-Finals. Then, in the 15-lap final, Wally put in an impressive performance, taking the pole-to-flag victory in 13:34.420. Lynn Al-Arifi came second at a distance of 4.883 seconds, while Al-Khaled finished on the podium 5.627 seconds from first place.
In the DD2 MAX class, it was a two-horse race between Alderayan and Abdullah Javed, who bested his opponent in the heats. In the pre-finals, however, Alderayan finished first by 0.410 seconds, and repeated his success in the final, this time beating Javid by 5.683 seconds over 15 laps.
BRMC’s Round Six was followed by another action-packed event the next day at BIKC at Round Seven.
Sheikh Ahmed and Nasser were once again battling it out for the top honors among the Mini Max runners, and Sheikh Ahmed had the best finish in the heats. In the semi-finals, however, Nasser won ahead of Rashid Hilal, before advancing to the final ahead of Sheikh Ahmed in 8:56.454. Shonal Kunimal completed his first podium finish.
In Micro MAX, Adam was on top all the way, winning both the heats and semi-finals and then running a nine-lap final in 9:24.616, enjoying a 5.058 second lead over Ali.
In the Junior Max class, Luca clinched pole position in the semi-finals, but Alhassan passed pole position by just 1.551 seconds. That set the stage for an exciting final, where Luca took the win only to lose it after the race due to a five-second penalty, elevating Al Hassan to first place. Alhassan achieved a winning time of 13:32.443 over 15 laps, with Luca classified 3.481 seconds behind him as runner-up. Saqr Al Musherji came third with 5.117 seconds.
The Senior Max class saw Mohamed Wali take pole position in the semi-finals but Al Khaled later won that race. Al-Khalid was then victorious in the 15-lap final, taking the checkered flag in 13:32.644, 1.490 seconds ahead of Wali. Lin Al Arifi took the last podium, 6.930 seconds behind Al Muntasir.
In the DD2 MAX class, Javid again beat Alderayan in the heats but the tables were turned in the semi-finals, with Alderayan winning by 0.832 seconds. Alderayan then completed his back-to-back weekend wins, taking the final in 13:34.381 after 15 laps and Jaweed ranking 12.713s behind.
At the end of the two racing days, prizes were presented to the winners at podium ceremonies attended by BIKC, BIC, BMF and BKC officials.
Only one round left in the 2022/2023 BRMC season, with the grand finale scheduled for March 17th at BIKC.
