Mitchell helps Jazz win 107-95 as Bucks lose 3rd straight

Milwaukee, Nov. 1 (BUS): Donovan Mitchell helped the Utah Jazz recover after their first loss of the season.

Mitchell scored 28 points and the Jazz beat the short-running Milwaukee Bucks 107-95 on Sunday to hand the NBA champions their third straight loss, the Associated Press reported.

Both teams were playing on the second night in a row, as the Bucks fell 102-93 to San Antonio and the Jazz lost 107-99 in Chicago. Unbeaten Utah before that trip to Chicago.

“We really ran out when we needed to,” Mitchell said. “You look tonight and you look at the way you went last night, in two opposing positions. I think there were times when Chicago really did ramp up advertising pressure that we weren’t ready for. They[The Bucks]did it again tonight and we were ready for it. They are the NBA champions. They won’t just go down 15 and shoot it every day.”

Mike Conley added 20 points, Jordan Clarkson 15, and Bojan Bogdanovic added 14 for jazz.

Milwaukee has given up three home games over the last five nights and shot 27.5% (36 of 131) from a 3-point range during that stretch. The Bucks opened the home podium with a 113-108 loss to Minnesota.

Chris Middleton missed Sunday’s game due to illness, causing another hurdle for a Milwaukee team that was already playing without regular players Junior Holiday, Brooke Lopez and Donte Da Vincenzo due to injury. Reserve striker Rodney Hood left with his right hand after playing just 11 minutes.

Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer said after the game that X-rays by Hood were inconclusive.

“We’ll get another x-ray, look at it again tomorrow and hope for the best,” Budenholzer said.

Giannis Antetokonmo led Milwaukee with 25 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Utah made her first five 3-point attempts and didn’t delay all night. Whenever the Bucks tried to rally in the second half, Mitchell responded.

“He’s very calm in the big moments,” said Milwaukee’s Grayson Allen, who used to play alongside Mitchell at Utah State. “This is what it is.

He always has the next play mentality. In Utah, when I was there, the thing they liked to talk about a lot mentally about was the next pace of play. He’s very good at that. I think this really helps him along the way too.

“It’s just another moment for him. A lot of times he wants the ball. He wants to be in that moment. He’s so calm. He’s so relaxed. And he’s been in a lot of those now, since his freshman year, he’s been making plays like that.”

When the Bucks had five points less than five minutes from the end of the third quarter, Mitchell scored the first seven points for Utah at 12-2 giving the Jazz some breathing space. Prior to this stretch, Mitchell had not scored since the first 10 points in the first quarter.

After trailing 17 in the final minute of the third inning, Milwaukee had a five-mile run again midway through the fourth inning. Mitchell responded by scoring five points in a 9-1 surge.

Allen provided a three-pointer to cut Utah’s lead to 99-95 with 1:39 left, but Mitchell made the next two baskets in the game to claim victory.

“I think it’s really like my job, to kind of go out there and have that footprint, that moment,” Mitchell said. “It could have easily gone the other way very quickly.”

The Bucks got 18 points from Allen, 15 from Bobby Portes, 11 from George Hill, and 10 from Thanassis Antikonmo.
