Locked-down Shanghai to start gradually reopening malls, other businesses

Shanghai, May 15 (BNA): The city’s vice mayor said at a media briefing on Sunday that the Chinese financial and manufacturing hub of Shanghai will gradually start reopening businesses such as shopping malls and hair salons from Monday after weeks of strict COVID-19 lockdown. . .

Reuters reports that Shanghai, which has been on lockdown for more than six weeks, is in the midst of a recent tightening in some areas that it hopes will serve as a final push in its battle with the virus.

Malls, department stores and supermarkets will begin to resume in-store operations and allow customers to shop in an “orderly manner,” while hair salons and vegetable markets will open at a limited capacity, Vice Mayor Chen Tong said, but did not give details on the pace or extent of reopenings. This is amazing.

During Shanghai’s lockdown, residents were mainly limited to buying essentials, with normal shopping on online platforms largely suspended.

A city official said Shanghai would soon announce a third “white list” of more than 820 import-export companies that could resume operations.
