Lebanon restores power supply after complete halt

Beirut, October 11 (BNA) The Lebanese Ministry of Energy said that electricity supplies returned to normal on Sunday after a power outage the previous day when the country’s two largest power stations were closed due to a fuel shortage.

The closure has added to the suffering of the Lebanese who are suffering from job losses, rising prices and starvation caused by the country’s worsening financial collapse.

The ministry said it had received the approval of the Central Bank to obtain a credit of $100 million to issue tenders to import fuel for electricity generation, adding that the country’s electricity network resumed supplying the same amount of electricity as it was before the complete outage.

The two largest power stations in Lebanon, Al-Zahrani and Deir Ammar stations, were closed Saturday, due to a lack of fuel, which led to the complete suspension of the Lebanese electricity network.

The State Electricity Company said in a statement reported by the official National News Agency, that the Lebanese army agreed on Saturday evening to provide six thousand kiloliters of gas oil, distributed equally between the two stations.

Lebanon has been paralyzed by an economic crisis that has worsened with the depletion of imported fuel supplies. The Lebanese currency has fallen by 90% since 2019.

Many Lebanese usually rely on private diesel generators, despite the short supply.
