London, October 23 (BNA) Mason Mount’s hat-trick pushed Chelsea to a 7-0 win over bottom club Norwich City in the English Premier League on Saturday (October 23) to continue their lead at the top of the table.
Mount opened Chelsea’s account when he sent the ball low into the net after Jorginho was knocked out in a move that started on the left from Callum Hudson-Odoi.
20-year-old Hudson-Odoi got his own bonus after 11 minutes when he tapped a ball from Mateo Kovacic and held his nerve to hit the net past the outstretched leg of Norwich goalkeeper Tim Kroll.
A third producer from Chelsea’s academy got the score sheet three minutes before halftime when Mount slid the ball into Reece James’ path and the winger made a delicious shot at the advancing Kroll.
It took 12 minutes into the second half for the Chelsea machine, now purring, to score again as left back Ben Chilwell sent Kovacic’s pass across the face of the goal and into the back of the net past a desperate Kroll, Reuters reports.
Norwich, who failed to win a game this season and scored only two goals, were in disarray and then suffered an own goal from Max Aarons in the 62nd minute and Ben Gibson sent off after a second yellow card two minutes later. Later.
Kroll saved a penalty from Mount late in the game, but the video assistant referee (VAR) showed he strayed from his line and when the kick was replayed in the 85th minute, Mount did nothing. The stand was crowned with a superb performance with a one-click pass from Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the 91st minute.
