Lazio’s Immobile suffers rib and back injuries in car crash, says club

Rome, April 16 (BNA): Italian football club Lazio said today, Sunday, that Lazio striker Ciro Immobile is being monitored in hospital after he suffered a broken rib and injured his back in a car accident in Rome.

Italian media reported that Immobile, who scored in Lazio’s 3-0 victory over Spezia on Friday, had an accident after the Italian international’s car collided with a tram in Rome.

“Earlier today, following a car accident, footballer Ciro Immobile suffered a spinal deformity and compound fracture of the 11th right rib,” Lazio said in a statement.

“The condition is currently good. The footballer is still under observation in the emergency medicine department… at the Agostino Gemelli IRCCS University Clinic in Rome.”

Sky Sport Italia said Immobile was traveling with his two daughters in the car, and the 33-year-old attacker told police that a tram was running at a red light.

Seven others, including tram passengers, were also taken to hospital for check-ups.

Immobile has scored 10 goals in Serie A this season to lead Lazio to second place in the standings behind leaders Napoli.
