Khalid bin Hamad Award for Sports Excellence launched

Manama, Jan. 30 (BNA): A new award has been launched bearing the name of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa to promote sports excellence.

The annual “Khalid bin Hamad Award for Sports Excellence” will be dedicated to outstanding institutions and athletes in recognition of their achievements.

His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the Public Authority for Sports and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, approved the award.

His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad, who chaired the third meeting of the committee’s board of directors, also approved the “National Coach Day” initiative. The award and the initiative were presented by the General Secretariat of the British Cabinet.

The meeting of the Board of Directors also approved the graduation ceremony of the 2022 class of the Olympic Academy, which will be held in late February. The 24th BOC Annual Assembly will also be held in March.

His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Maktoum praised the achievements of the past year, praising the committee’s role in supporting the national teams (Bahrain’s national team), which achieved success in various matches.

He was briefed on the preparations for the 2024 Olympic Games, the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games and various other competitions.

The Sports Excellence Award, which is dedicated to honoring athletes (institutions and individuals) at the end of each season, aims to promote a culture of excellence in the sports community.

The award will reward most sports disciplines such as the best athlete (team and individual games), as well as the best coach, referee, administrator, national team, sports federation, sports club, best athlete with design, best sports support company, best ministry and government body supporting sports.
