iGA: Strengthening ties with AWS supports digitization and economic growth

Manama, May 11 (BNA) The Chief Executive Officer of the Information and eGovernment Authority, Muhammad Ali Al-Qaed, stressed the importance of strengthening continuous partnerships with global technology companies that support government-led digital transformation efforts and enhance the digital economy through advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI).

He highlighted the Kingdom’s commitment to the information technology sector and digital transformation, and the importance of continuous investment in these areas.

A range of supporting legislation and policies have helped create an environment that attracts global companies, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), which recognized the advantages Bahrain offered when the kingdom chose the location of its first data centers in the Middle East.

Al-Qaed referred to the agreement that focuses on purchasing cloud services and solutions for government and semi-government entities, and simplifying the adoption of cloud services as the Kingdom enters the second phase of its digital transformation.

This will help create opportunities in the digital economy and support Bahrain in developing the non-oil sectors.

Vice President of Public Sector Sales at AWS Worldwide in Europe, Middle East and Africa, Isabella Grigor-Czekovic, highlighted the importance of the ongoing cooperation between AWS and Bahrain, which will support digital transformation and innovation efforts in the Kingdom and enhance the efficiency of services provided to the public, in line with the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.

Strengthening relationships with AWS will also provide cloud solutions to government and semi-government agencies, including the healthcare and education sectors, that will standardize and shorten procurement processes either directly from AWS or through AWS solution providers.
