Iconic Manama Souq develop plans discussed

Manama, July 1 (BNA) During a meeting held by the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, the Manama Souq Development Committee discussed plans to revive the Manama Souq.

The meeting reviewed the various efforts to revive the tourist, heritage, commercial and social status of the market as one of the most important markets in the region.

The CEO of BTEA, Dr. Nasser Qaidi, revealed plans to implement the comprehensive development of the Manama market in cooperation with the committee and other relevant bodies.

He commended the members of the Committee, praising their support for the Commission.

“BTEA is keen to continue holding many events in the Manama Souq. Building on the success of the recent market events organized by the authority, including the Bab Al Bahrain Fashion Show, and the Manama Gold Festival, in which more than 150 stores participated and achieved sales that exceeded one million dinars among other events,” said Dr. Qaidi.

He pointed to the success of the Manama Souq tours program, as well as the high turnout of tourists and visitors to participate in these tours, stressing that the authority aspires to increase the number of these tours and expand its path to include more heritage attractions and recreational activities.

Dr. Qaidi spoke about the many initiatives the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority is dedicated to putting into practice in the market, including Bahrain Design Week and bids for the renovation of historic cafes and public spaces.

He stressed plans to complete a large percentage of this development process before the beginning of next winter when the Manama Souq will witness an increase in the number of visitors.

Fouad Al-Shakr also discussed the possibility of expanding the successful events held by the Bahrain Tourism Authority in the market to include additional locations within it, such as the old municipality square and Al-Taweesh Square, to spread the benefits of these events to the largest possible geographical and neighborhood market in the market. Commercial area.

Ghada Mohammed Al-Sayed commended creative events such as Bahrain Design Week, appreciating the range of events hosted by the Bahrain Tourism Authority in the Manama Souq, and highlighted the need to bring more artistic activities and Bahraini artists to these events.

Ibrahim Daoud Nonoo explained that the Manama Souq development project preserves the unique architectural heritage and displays its religious and commercial features that witnessed brotherhood and coexistence in Bahrain since ancient times, adding that with the progress of work, more tourists and visitors will come to the market. , which will not only benefit the merchants but also Bahrain as a whole.

The Cities and Villages Development Committee consists of representatives from the Ministry of Works, Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning, the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, the Urban Planning and Development Authority, the Bahrain Economic Development Board, the Capital Governorate, and the Capital Municipal Council in addition to many Manama Souq merchants. .
