Housing Minister expresses Bahrain’s pride in its successful partnership with UN-Habitat

New York, April 29 / BNA / The Minister of Housing, Basem Bin Yaqoub Al Hamer, affirmed the pride of the Kingdom of Bahrain in its long-successful partnership with the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) to implement United Nations initiatives, foremost of which is the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Noting that the Kingdom has made great strides in implementing these goals in various fields.

The Minister was speaking during his meeting with the Executive Director of UN-Habitat, Maimouna Mohamed Sharif, on the sidelines of the high-level meeting on the implementation of the New Urban Agenda, where Minister Al-Hamr gave a speech dedicated to highlighting the progress made. The Kingdom in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in the presence of the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Jamal Faris Al-Ruwai.

During the meeting, the minister reviewed the efforts made by the government of Bahrain, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to achieve the development goals contained in the second voluntary national review report on the sustainable development goals submitted by the Kingdom to the United Nations, with reference to The concerned ministries are coordinating the implementation of these goals.

He pointed out that the government’s efforts in this regard are focused on developing housing policies, paying attention to urban data and elements of sustainability, developing a framework for monitoring urban areas and housing, launching an urban greening project, providing green and healthy cities, in addition to innovative and sustainable design, and effective management of energy and resources, including Including waste and water, as well as promoting the design of public spaces and greening public spaces, with the participation of Bahraini youth.

The Executive Director of UN-Habitat praised Bahrain’s efforts in implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, and its keenness to submit the second voluntary national review report on the sustainable development goals in a timely manner, given the importance of the report as a reference for the implementation of the sustainable development goals.

Maymouna Mohammed Sharif also valued the Kingdom’s keenness to attend the high-level meeting on the implementation of the New Urban Agenda in New York, praising the valuable information and data included in the Kingdom’s speech on the progress it has made.
