HM King’s Personal Representative lauds Bahrain chairing MOP 34 meeting

Manama, Nov. 17 (BNA): His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Personal Representative of His Majesty the King and Chairman of the Supreme Council for the Environment, announced that the Kingdom of Bahrain has been elected chair of the Montreal Protocol meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol. Substances that deplete the ozone layer (MOP34) in November.

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah expressed the Kingdom’s pride in the great responsibility and global standing by presiding over the meeting for the first time in 35 years, thanks to the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman. bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to enhance the Kingdom’s participation in international forums for environmental conservation.

He said that MOP 34 is one of the most successful environmental agreements that has a global role in protecting the earth from the repercussions of the depletion of the ozone layer and the danger of ultraviolet radiation emitted from the sun.

The total number of states parties to the Montreal Protocol is 198, which celebrates the 35th anniversary of its ratification. The meeting was held to discuss several critical global issues related to energy efficiency, and the development of refrigeration and air conditioning technologies that will contribute to reducing global warming and preventing ozone layer depletion.

The Chairman of the Authority expressed his appreciation to all parties for their support and confidence in Bahrain to assume this position and enable it to lead the movement to reach decisions that help all countries, especially developing countries, to fulfill their environmental obligations towards the requirements of the Montreal Protocol.

He praised the authority’s efforts and its keenness to achieve the best levels of environmental work, which gave the Kingdom a distinguished reputation in protecting the planet from climate threats.
