Manama, Mar. 14 (BNA): His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa received today the heads of parliaments and their delegations participating in the 146th session of the Council of Representatives.y The Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly is currently being held in Bahrain with officials from 143 countries around the world attending.
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, was present at Sakhir Palace.
In a speech delivered on this occasion, His Majesty the King personally welcomed the honorable guests of Bahrain, and praised the long-term role played by the IPU in achieving peace, cooperation and work for a stable and prosperous world for all mankind.
“We have followed with interest the main issues under discussion that relate to the promotion of peaceful coexistence, and the development of inclusive societies that embrace the values of disciplined freedom, justice, and recognition of the rights of all without discrimination,” he said.
He renewed Bahrain’s commitment to supporting the human values adopted by civil society for the stability and development of the state of law through its constitutional institutions.
His Majesty the King described the IPU meeting as an ideal opportunity to highlight Bahrain’s two-chamber system, which has achieved tangible steps and contributes to national development.
He praised the role of the Bahraini legislative system in preserving the foundations of a tolerant society open to the changing world, modern civilization, and cultural and intellectual currents.
His Majesty the King praised the efforts made by the parliamentarians, who reflect the popular will to achieve the hopes and aspirations of the people and protect their interests.
His Majesty the King expressed his thanks to the Speaker of Parliament, the Speaker of the Shura Council, and the Chairman and members of the organizing committees, wishing them success in promoting collective legislative action towards “building a better future.”
Then the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Duarte Pacheco, presented His Majesty the King with a souvenir on this occasion.
