Haaland, Kerr win FWA’s player of the year awards

London, May 12 (BNA): Manchester City’s Erling Haaland won the Football Writers’ Association’s Player of the Year award for men, while Chelsea’s Sam Kerr won the women’s award, it was announced Friday.

The Norwegian international Haaland, who scored a record 51 goals in all competitions with City this season, won 72 percent of Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, and came second among the votes, followed by his teammate Martin Odegaard.

In the women’s game, Australian international Kerr became the first player to win back-to-back awards after receiving twice as many votes as Aston Villa’s Rachel Daley. Lauren James of Chelsea came third.

Haaland and Kerr will receive their awards at a ceremony on May 25th, according to Reuters.

Haaland leads the English Premier League by one point with four matches remaining, while Chelsea, led by Kerr, occupies second place in the Women’s Premier League standings.
