German customs find ton of khat at Munich airport

Munich, October 19 (BNA) Officials at Munich Airport have found 1.2 tons of khat, a plant containing a stimulant banned in Germany, a customs spokesman said on Tuesday.

The khat leaves were found last Thursday in a consignment titled “Table Decorations”. Deutsche News Agency (dpa) said it was uploaded in Dubai to be sent to the United States.

“This is the largest amount of khat ever found at Munich airport,” customs spokesman Thomas Meister said.

Investigations into both the sender and the receiver are underway.
