French Open lookahead: Nadal-Zverev, Cilic-Ruud semifinals

Paris, June 3 (BUS): Rafael Nadal, seeded 3, will face Alexander Zverev in the men’s French Open semi-finals.

20th seed Marin Cilic, seeded 8th, will play Casper Ruud in the second semifinals at Court Philippe Chatrier on Friday.

It’s Nadal’s 36th birthday. Forecasts are for rain, so it’s a good idea for the stadium to have a retractable roof, according to the Associated Press.

Nadal appeared at Roland Garros with his personal physician due to chronic pain in his left foot.

The Spaniard known as the King of Clay is chasing a 14th French title and 22nd Grand Slam title – both of which will add to the records he already holds – and has said time and time again that he doesn’t know if every match will be his last. In the tournament he dominated for a long time.

None of the other three remaining men’s players competed in a final in Paris. And only Zverev reached the semi-finals on clay, losing at that stage a year ago.

The 25-year-old German was the runner-up at the 2020 US Open and won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics last summer.

Cilic, 33, of Croatia, won the US Open in 2014 and is now one of five active players to reach the quarter-finals at least once in every Grand Slam tournament. Ruud is 23 years old from Norway and had not made it past the fourth round of a Grand Slam yet. Sunday men’s final.
