Manama, September 20 (BNA) The Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, Dr. Muhammad bin Mubarak bin Dina, CEO of the Supreme Council for the Environment, sponsored today the opening of the Fourth Forum for the Protection of Ozone. Layer, which is held in conjunction with the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer which is celebrated annually on September 16 and is celebrated this year under the slogan “Montreal Protocol – we keep our food and our vaccines cold”.
Dr. Bin Dina stressed the keenness of the Kingdom of Bahrain to make all efforts and support the international community to protect the environment from the severe damage caused by the depletion of the ozone layer in the last decades of the twentieth century due to chemicals and refrigerants. He referred to the measures taken by the authority to keep pace with technological development in accordance with the best international practices. He added that the set of national legislation launched by the Supreme Council for the Environment in this regard comes within the framework of the Kingdom’s commitment to the requirements of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the Montreal Protocol on Ozone Depleting Substances. layer”.
The Saudi Council of Engineers organized the fourth forum for the protection of the ozone layer over four days in the conference hall of the Gulf Hotel, with the participation of more than 120 parties from various sectors. It included intensive workshops aimed at increasing the awareness of governmental and non-governmental institutions of the importance of national legislation launched by the Permanent Committee of Experts to Preserve the Ozone Layer. The forum also included an exhibition displaying the latest technologies used in the recycling of gases that deplete the ozone layer.
To promote the concept of ozone layer protection, the Supreme Council for the Environment launched a number of competitions and cultural programs targeting all age groups of Bahraini society.
