Four-time grand slam winner Kim Clijsters retires again

BRUSSELS, April 13 (BUS): Grand Slam singles champion Kim Clijsters has retired from professional tennis for the third time.


The 38-year-old Belgian announced her decision on social media on Tuesday.


“I can’t wait to see what new adventures come my way,” she wrote on Instagram.


Clijsters, who rose to world number one in singles and doubles in 2003, won the US Open three times (2005, 2009-2010) and the 2011 Australian Open. She also won two Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon and the 2003 French Open, according to Reuters. .


She initially retired in 2007 to marry and start a family before returning two years later. She retired again in 2012 before starting to come back again in 2020.


Clijsters amassed 41 singles titles and 11 additional doubles titles while earning over $24.5 million in prize money.


Her last competitive match was a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 loss to Czech Katerina Siniakova in the first round in Indian Wells on October 7.
